The flowers meet Dr Angela
All went well at the vet visit with Charm’s pups. Good lungs, hearts, bites (but Sweet Pea is still all gums). Autumn sang to me all the way there and back. Great. LOL

PAT testing
All the pups had their PAT testing done today. (Puppy Aptitude Test
developed by Clarence Pfaffenberger in his book "The New Knowledge of Dog
Behavior") and I was pleased with the results on all the pups. No real surprises except Sweet Pea. She's such a wild woman around here but was more demure with a stranger. She's a little clone of her momma Charm.
Charm's kids will get their first vet visit on Wed. 9/21 and Daisy's go on Tuesday 9/27.
They grow up so fast!

This is the vaccination schedule that I use for my dogs. I do not use Bordatella, so it’s not listed but I know that some groomers or trainers require it. In the event that you must use it, I follow Dr Jean Dodd’s recommendation of:
Boretella (Intranasal) (killed) Only recommended 3 days prior to boarding or when required and not to be given at the same time as any other vaccine.
MINIMAL VACCINE USE
MINIMAL VACCINE USE
The schedule is one I recommend and should not interpreted to mean that other protocols recommended by a veterinarian would be less satisfactory. It's a matter of choice. Please educate yourselves on vaccines! I strongly encourage minimal vaccine use.
Age of Pups | Vaccine Type |
8-9 weeks 11-13 weeks (*3 ½ weeks after initial) 16 -18 weeks (*3 ½ weeks after 2nd) 20 weeks or older, if allowable by law 1 year after initial (approx. 16 months old) 1 year after initial (approx. 17 months old) | Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV (e.g. Intervet Progard Puppy DPV) Same as above Same as above Rabies – no others! Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV Rabies, killed 3-year product (give 3-4 weeks apart from distemper/parvovirus booster) |
Perform vaccine antibody titers for distemper and parvovirus every three years thereafter, or more often, if desired. Vaccinate for rabies virus according to the law, except where circumstances indicate that a written waiver needs to be obtained from the primary care veterinarian. In that case, a rabies antibody titer can also be performed to accompany the waiver request. See www rabieschallengefund.org
Vaccines Not Recommended (From Dr Dodds website)
Corona

1) There are an average of 12 cases reported annually in California.
2) Side effects common.
3) Most commonly used vaccine contains the wrong serovars. (There is no cross-protection of serovars) There is a new vaccine with 2 new serovars. Two vaccinations twice per year would be required for protection.).
4) Risk outweighs benefits.
Lyme
Not recommended
1) Low risk in California.
2) 85% of cases are in 9 New England states and Wisconsin.
3) Possible side effect of polyarthritis from whole cell bacterin.

Monday cam
Pups are on Charm's cam, outside playing in the pup yard. Painters are here so their xpen is completely taken down and tarps have taken its place! So they are enjoying the nice weather today in the playground.

Picture updates
Daisy's Coffee kids were 5 weeks on Tuesday:
And Charm's flowers 6 weeks old today:
I'll start weaning them on Sunday by restricting their mom's access to their pen and feeding soft kibble several times a day. Mom will be allowed to nurse after they've had some solid food. I'll be combining the 2 litters this week and enlarging their sleeping area to allow for more play. Hopefully they will continue to hit the UGO but if not, I'll just make it a little smaller to help them succeed.
Painters are coming Monday - Wed so the pups will be moved to the studio until I can put thir house back together and put their pen back up. RED paint! A nice dark "wine" is going on one accent wall with a tan-ish color on the others walls. I'm excited. Especially since I'm not the one doing it! =)

Those darn pups!
Well first, little Ms Sweet Pea has discovered her agility gene. Two mornings now I have found her outside her xpen, sleeping with the adults. This morning I couldn't find her right away and then her pretty little head pops up from a scrunched up blanket. Another Zorro in the making with that jumping gene! I tried to make the "wall" taller after the first night but she still got over. Stinker!
Then this morning, suddenly the pups discovered the webcams on top of the water jug. And they can reach it. And its great fun to pull it down. So the cam is off until I can figure out how to fix this problem.
Off to get my hair done. I had to cancel my last appointment because the pups were born early so I'm a few months overdue for a cut!

Busy babies!
The kids have had a busy few days. I'm working on getting the videos up on YouTube now. There are 3 of them so it will take a while to upload them all. I'll post links soon.

Finally pictures
I seem to be getting worse on posting pictures! I get them on the camera but can't get computer time to make the collage. I won't promise to be better but I will try!
Daisy's pups were 4 weeks old on Tuesday and here is their collage.
Charm's pups were 5 weeks old yesterday.
All is well with the groups. They are playing together and having a good time running around. Charm's pups are enjoying the goats milk with mushed up kibble. Momma wasn't making enough milk for them and they were hungry all the time. Now she can rest between nursings with the supplements they get.
